Smoking refers to the natural oxidation/aging process of the oak timber,
where the boards are fumed or smoked for three days with ammonia vapor.
This vapor chemically reacts with the tannin in the oak and causes it to deepen 
in color to a level that the oak would otherwise reach naturally over 20-30 years.

The advantage of smoking is that it achieves a natural color which permeates 
all the way through the 4mm or 6mm wear layer.

The smoking also gives the boards an attractive tonal variation from pale to 
mid tone plus veining within individual boards.
